Changes to Minimum Product Requirements Needed to Earn Lighting Incentives Coming January 1, 2014!

In order to qualify for Focus on Energy incentives, lighting equipment has to match a model listed on a qualifying products list.  Focus on Energy uses DesignLights Consortium® (DLC)  as its qualifying list for most types of interior and exterior LED fixture and retrofit products.

On January 1, 2014, DesignLights Consortium (DLC) will be updating the minimum specification requirements on their qualified products list. This change to the minimum requirements will affect the eligibility status of roughly 15% of products that are currently eligible for incentives.

We understand that you may already be planning projects that will be installed early next year. To assist with transition to the new requirements, Focus on Energy will implement a three month grace period (January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2014). During this grace period products that were eligible for incentives under DLC spec v1.7 (the current specifications), but do not meet DLC spec v2.0 (the new specifications) will still be considered as eligible for Focus on Energy incentives.

Beginning on April 1, 2014 product eligibility will be limited to only products that fully match a model number that appears on the most current version of DLC v2.0 qualified products list posted on the DLC website at www.designlights.org.  Please note that the DLC list is updated almost daily.

The new specification requirements can be viewed on DLC’s website by following the link below: http://www.designlights.org/Content/QPL/ProductSubmit/CategorySpecifications

For more information on these proposed changes please visit

Please feel free to contact a member of our Lighting Department to assist with these changes, navigation of the DLC list, and to choose the correct product that will earn the greatest incentives.
